The UK’s top triathlon club has teamed up with 3D Tri Events to host the second Birmingham Triathlon on 2nd September 2012 – giving Brum a long overdue place on the national triathlon calendar.

Birmingham Running Athletics and Triathlon Club (BRAT), the British Triathlon Federation’s National Club of the Year (2010-2011), has just unveiled its spring and autumn events.

“For far too long the country’s second city has not had a triathlon to call its own,” says BRAT’s award-winning vice chair Duncan Hough (British Triathlon’s national official of the year).

“London has Hyde Park and the London Triathlon – and even Liverpool and Manchester have their own events.

“Now Birmingham can join their ranks and boast a headline event of its own.”

Both events will be held at the picturesque West Midlands Water Ski Centre - just a few miles north of Birmingham city centre – boasting top-notch facilities for both competitors and (often overlooked!) spectators.

This dedicated water sports resort nestles alongside the Middleton Lakes RSPB Wild Life Reserve and the River Tame - offering one of the highest water quality ratings of any open water swim venue in the UK.

The picturesque, wind-sheltered lake offers a calm and safe swim for the beginner but fast opportunities for more seasoned triathletes.

The mostly flat, fast, bike course works its way around Kingsbury Water Park - taking in much of the scenic North Warwickshire Cycle Way.

Finally, the run will comprise breathtaking laps around the water’s edge – with all athletes enjoying stunning views along ‘Pike’s Ridge’ to the finish line.

The venue’s log cabin clubhouse offers changing facilities, heated showers and a bar and restaurant.

With a large sun deck overlooking the lake, it’s an ideal gathering point for spectators to cheer on both the swimmers and runners.

The site also provides plenty of ample camping space with full facilities (perfect for those early-morning starts), bike repairs and a triathlon expo.
