In accordance with UK Athletics (UKA) Rules for Competition, all licensed road races must use Gun Time as the official race time.

1. Official Time (Gun Time)

  • The official time for all athletes is measured from the moment the start signal is given to the moment the athlete crosses the finish line.

  • Gun Time is used for:

    • Official results

    • Overall and category positions

    • Prize allocation

    • Records and rankings

  • This rule applies to all participants, regardless of their position within the start pack.

Please note: We do work with some events who award age category prizes based upon the chip time. This is the decision of the event and is not the official ruling)

2. Chip Time (Net Time)

  • Chip Time is measured from the moment an athlete crosses the start line to the moment they cross the finish line.

  • Chip Time is provided for personal reference only.

  • Chip Time cannot be used for:

    • Official positions

    • Prize decisions

    • Records or rankings

  • Chip Time may be displayed on results pages, certificates, and personal performance summaries.

3. Reason for the Rule

  • Gun Time ensures a fair and consistent method of determining race positions.

  • Chip Time provides athletes with an accurate personal running time while maintaining the integrity of official results.

4. Acceptance of Timing Policy

By entering the event, all participants acknowledge and accept that:

  • Gun Time will be used as the official race time, and

  • Chip Time is provided for information only, in line with UKA rules.
